Rep. Jenkins-Arno Secures $12 Million in State Funding for Sam Beauford Woodworking
RELEASE|October 15, 2025

State Representative Nancy Jenkins-Arno (R-Clayton) today announced that she has successfully secured $12 million in state funding for the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute (SBWI) in Adrian as part of Michigan’s Fiscal Year 2026 budget.

The funding marks a major investment in Lenawee County’s skilled trades and educational infrastructure, enabling SBWI to expand its programs, grow its facilities, and welcome more students and families from across the country to begin careers in the highly specialized field of fine woodworking and craftsmanship.

“This is a huge win not just for Lenawee County, but for the entire state of Michigan,” said Jenkins-Arno. “The Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute is a gem in our community, and this investment will ensure it becomes a national hub for skilled trades education. These are high-demand, high-skill jobs that attract families, create economic opportunities, and have a lasting impact on our region.”

Founded in 2015, SBWI has earned national recognition for its commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and workforce development. The new funding will allow for expanded classroom and workshop space, new equipment, and increased enrollment capacity—helping meet growing demand for skilled workers in industries ranging from custom furniture to historic restoration.

“This funding is transformational,” said Luke Barnett, President of the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute. “We’re deeply grateful to Rep. Jenkins-Arno for her leadership and vision. With these resources, we can grow our programs, attract talent from around the country, and give more students the opportunity to build rewarding, hands-on careers. The impact of this investment will be felt for generations.”

The $12 million allocation comes as Michigan leaders continue to prioritize skilled trades and technical education as essential drivers of economic development. By supporting institutions like SBWI, the state is not only preserving the legacy of fine craftsmanship but also building a future workforce equipped to meet modern demands.
