State Rep. John Roth, of Traverse City, is recognizing the vital role caregivers provide for millions of Americans who live with a disability or need assistance to be safe and healthy in their homes.

This week, Roth offered House Resolution 235 declaring today as Caregivers Day in the state of Michigan. Caregivers traditionally assist with basic activities of daily living while nurturing the comfort of a traditional home environment.

“Home care has emerged as a valuable lifeline in place of traditional care like hospitals and nursing homes,” Roth said. “We are incredibly thankful for the service these professionals provide. The work of a caregiver has been immensely difficult in the face of COVID-19 and yet they continue to do the job and care for our loved ones.

“Isolation has been a major part of this pandemic. Many elderly people have been unable to see family members for long periods. Caregivers provide companionship and stimulation just by being someone to talk to and interact with. It’s important to recognize their hard work.”

The home care industry is among the fastest growing health-care industries in the United States. There are roughly 4.6 professional caregivers and 44 million family caregivers nationwide.
